Blog Wars 2:The Future of Carrots

A largely controversial topic, the future of carrots has been debated by the great minds for generations. In the beginning there where many different colours of carrots, greens, whites and purples, but carrots are mainly grown in Holland and through hundreds of years of selective breeding they managed to have all carrots the bright orange that they are today. Now what? These long pointy vegetables could be used for multiple purposes, as a weapon it has many possibility because, lets face it, no one likes a carrot jammed up their nostril, it could also be used as a decoration do to its bright colour, the Christmas tree signifies life, the Victoria day carrot represents know one knowing whats going on but getting an extra day off work. People could hang them from their piercings like ornaments, they can also be used as a very dull orange marker. The potential of carrots is limitless, their uses abundant but they will most likely stay the same, that weird vegetable that you eat. What a waste.

How Camp Changed My Life

Camp has changed my life, I can guarantee that if it were not for Camp Cherith I would not be where I am today. When I was 14 my parents decided to send me and my brother to camp, I was terrified. At 14 I was crying and telling them not to make me go. I went for that first week and had a lot of fun, I enjoyed being able to talk to my counselors about the bible and not be waved off as too young to understand it. At the end of the week my leader suggested that I do the CILT program, which stands for Campers In Leadership Training. I decided to do it, coming into CILT I was a very shy, cautious teenager, after the first couple days once I got to know everyone I really came out of my shell. CILT let me learn skills I needed to be a great counselor but it also taught me important life skills such as being independent and different ways to study the bible. I went into CILT a shy guy teen and came out a confident young man. I would consider CILT as being a huge shaping point in my life. I met great friends who I still keep in touch with quite a bit, I learned great leadership techniques which have not only helped me at camp but in other parts of my life. I think CILT was the place where I began learning about balance, about balancing work and play, realizing both are important. I graduated CILT four years ago and I still consider it to have been one of the biggest shapers of my character. This year I was asked to be the CILT director and teach the new batch of CILT's an opportunity that both thrills and terrifies me. I hope that I can help these teenagers become new, productive members at Cherith and help guide them in their faith.
Cheers!

My Favorite Tools Round 2

Hello all, thanks for checking me out, here are a couple more of my favorite tools. These are some tools that are often forgotten about that make all the difference.

  • My Tool Belt: I have a run of the mill Mastercraft tool belt, now before you start scoffing and telling me that Mastercraft is junk let me just tell you that this tool belt has come in handy so many times, it can handle being bumped around and doesn't fall apart. At 40$ it is a bit pricey but it is on sale quite a bit.
  • My Knife: I actually picked up my knife at Walmart because I needed one quick, it turned out to be a winner, it holds extra blades inside so if you need one they're right there. It is very sharp and will last you a long time
  • My Drywall Saw: I was surprised how often I needed this tool and I still need it quite a bit, it isn't expensive but if you are not planning on becoming a professional drywaller anytime soon it is all you need.
  • My Pen Voltage Tester: This little device is amazing, I can't count how many times it has stopped me from getting buzzed. I wouldn't trust it too too much but for household wiring it is really handy, it also turns itself off after a while which is really helpful.
Hope you enjoyed this,
Cheers!

My Favorite Tools

The right tool makes all the difference, I cannot count the times that I have tried using a bad tool and ended up with a bad or mediocre result because of it. I, having worked in electrical have some favorite tools that I like to stick by.

  • I have a set of Klein side cutters and let me tell you these things are tough, I spent 60$ on them and they were worth every cent, they have gone through a lot and they keep on kicking.
  • My linesman pliers are also incredible, they are made by Channellock and are a great bargain for 30$. They are great for twisting wires together, holding things and anything in between, I have cut nails with them on numerous occasions and they have proved to be a great purchase.
  • My wire strippers, having been in the electrical field were always a priority, I have tried many different types and am quite indecisive on the matter, I have a pair of Kleins (30$) and a pair of GBs (13$) and I think they both do their jobs quite well.
  • Screwdrivers are probably the most used tools in the world, even in school I probably use a screwdriver at least once a day. Now even though they get used all the time they don't have to be a pricey tool, I was given a set of Husky screwdrivers and they are still my go too's 3 years and hundreds of tasks later, I bought another set as spares and was amazed at the value (20$). I would definitely recommend them.

Working With My Hands

I have grown up in a very hands on, hard working family. I grew up using a variety of different tools and learning about different trades from different family members. I really enjoy doing carpentry, drywall, electrical and just about anything else around the house. I was lucky enough to work for an electrical company for a year before starting college and will be working at my grandparents heating and cooling company this summer. I have always loved making things run, stand or light up. I remember being about 8 years old and me and my two younger brothers decided to build a plane out of wood, about an hour later my mom came out to see three little boys yelling and fighting among ourselves. We had been hard at work when my brother Paul had said he was going to be the first to fly the plane, now Joseph and I felt that we had worked just as hard and that we should be the first ones to fly it. It was a very big problem, anyways, I love working with my hands and plan on one day fixing up a home for me and my family.
All the Best,
Andrew

New Topics on my Blog

All through school I was always told, write about what you know, good advice as it turns out. This blog has always been a light hearted blog, the posts have been mostly nonsensicle, I will continue to do my crazy posts but I am also looking forward to talking about other things that I enjoy including camp, working and hockey. I hope you enjoy my posts as much as I like writing them.

Battle of the Blogs: Round 1 The Light Fixture Conundrum

Residential light fixtures are a staple of modern society, we would be lost without these cheap, efficient sources of light in our daily lives, no doubt it revolutionized work, being able to do it any time, day or night, but what you don't know about light fixtures could be hurting you, did you know that the electromagnetic frequencies emitted from light fixtures are known to cause brain damage and elevated stress levels to teenage boys such as http://lifeofanotsoaveragejoe.blogspot.ca/. His posts prove that something is definitely wrong with him. The frequency of the light changing 60 times per second may not be noticeable by our eyes but our brain is trying to block out the changes thus putting it under extreme stress. We must ask ourselves is it worth it to use light fixtures when our youth are having these problems? Is it fair? Pregnant teenage males are know to have problems with the light fixtures among other things. Light fixtures are very common, in a 1958 study by Harvard University, 47% of homes had light fixtures in them . In another study Princeton discovered that 1 in 23 people  had mental illnesses or 4.57%. There are now light fixtures in 99.892% of homes and 1 in 3 people have a mental illness of some sort according to Stats Canada. The stats don't lie, light fixtures are causing mental illness and brain damage to NotSoAverageJoe.
Be sure to vote for me at Camp Girl's blog.

Please read vote and help propel me to the victorious standing I deserve. Thanks, Andrew.

It might be exam time if..

If you are wondering if it is exam time for college and university students here are some things to look for:
-Sales of energy drinks quadruple during college exams
-Tim Hortons sells 68% more coffee
-Students look 23% paler having not seen the sun for days at a time
-Students will be irrational due to lack of sleep
-The same clothes may be worn multiple days in a row as cleanliness is not the priority
-Vacant staring into the distance
-At least a weeks worth of stubble
-School books are seen open and students are actually reading
-Has a knowledge of strange subjects such as Spanish conjugation and derivatives of trig functions
-No knowledge of the date, month or year just know that they have to understand latching contacts by 9AM tomorrow
-Shows many signs of insanity including mumbling to themselves about I=V/Z

My Views on Dancing

Dancing is one of those things that I just cannot do I mean don't get me wrong I try hard but it just doesn't translate into good dancing. I have always been a person who like to see the point of what they're doing. I drove my high school math teachers crazy asking where I would need all the formulas but it turns out they are handy. Anyways I don't see the point of dancing, I have okay rythm but the coordination of a three legged panda so it makes it very difficult for me to dance well also I don't know what to do with my arms, like what are they there for? Dances are stupid because all it is is music and you don't hang out with anyone other than in your group of friends, if I were to do it all over again I would not go to prom but instead take my lovely girlfriend out for a nice dinner and we could get dressed up and take pictures and all that but not go to the dance, then I would have a nice big bonfire and have all the people that I would have hung out with anyways come over for smores and the such. All this would have cost way less and I would find it as much fun as dancing. I don't mind slow dancing, it is pretty easy, mostly you hug the person and try not to fall over while slowly moving your feet. Anyways as I'm writing this I am by myself dancing to Moves Like Jagger. Dancing by yourself is fun but has been known to cause injuries.
All the best,

Andrew

Why Angry Birds is unrealistic

No this is not going to be a rant about how birds would never get angry at pigs. I actually find this to be quite a plausible scenario, no this is not a rant about birds that can explode, drop egg bombs and have surprise triplets while flying no this is a rant about how when the stuff falls on the pigs they never die. First off pigs are not the most intelligent of creatures, they wouldn't be able to make those elaborate structures. I mean honestly, when was the last tie you saw a pig doing anything other that lying in the mud, eating or going to the market? IT JUST DOESN'T HAPPEN!!!!!! Pigs are lazy the birds would have a much better chance of winning, especially if ostriches got involved, the pigs would be trampled by large ugly birds that look surprisingly like feather dusters with legs. Now the proper strategy for the birds would be to use peacocks to distract the pigs while the ostriches went all avian on their hineys! I'm sorry for the strong language but I feel very strongly about this subject. Also as the Alfred Hitchcock film shows birds are nothing to be messed with. I just feel that this is a totally unrealistic game as the birds are pretty dumb. I mean its the ultimate battle swine flu vs. avian flu. Also apparently the pigs can be crushed but not hurt. These are some reasons this is a stupid game.

Video Game Tips

Hello world, today I choose to come to you with some very important tips for video games. I am not an incredible gamer but I can usually hold my own. I have several different strategies for my games the first being the butt clench. This technique works especially well for games like Angry Birds and other games in which you do something and there is a reaction for example when I shoot a bird I clench and then I let it go when it hits. This is the kind of skill that is involved with Angry Birds. My advice for Call of Duty is to relax when you play. When I’m uptight I get killed way more. Relax it’s just a game. Now for Mario Kart, Mario Kart is a tricky one and it has taken me years to master, the trick is to lean forward when you want to go faster, I know, I know people say it doesn’t change anything but I rock at Mario Kart and that’s my trick for it. These skills have been developed over my almost 20 years on this planet so use them wisely, with great power comes great responsibility.

All the best my friends,
Game wisely.

How to have some fun (and look good doing it)

There are plenty of ways in this world to have some fun. Hanging out with friends, playing video games, I like to think that most of life can be fun if we choose to make it that way. Today I was walking my cart to the cart area at Rona and decided to use it like a scooter I ran and scooted along and it was awesome, it was just icy enough that I could drift on it and it was sweet. Even when I'm doing tests I try to race against time. It makes my day better. As for looking good while having fun I suggest that you try to look as much like me as possible as I look freaking amazing.

All the best,

Camp Guy

Why the guitar is a stupid instrument

There are many reasons that the guitar is a stupid instrument, the foremost being that I can't play it. I have tried, I have failed, I have tried again and I have failed again.I am actually on my third attempt at learning this stupid thing and have yet to be able to play a decent song. The problem with a guitar is that you have to move your fingers so much and it makes it really tough to get the hang of, especially for me with my clumsyness. Another reason why guitars suck is that so many people think they are amazing, girls flock to the guy with the guitar and there is always that one guy bringing his guitar everywhere, this is a phenomenon which I like to call 'severe guitar douchebaggia' now don't get me wrong, if you're good at the guitar feel free to play but don't bring it if you can't back it up. I wish I could smash some guys guitars on the road just because they are idiots. So the moral of this post is if you own a guitar don't be a douche... well I guess even if you don't own a guitar you shouldn't be a douche but I think the normal person to douche ration is much higher for guitar players. Anyways have a good one, merry Christmas and goodnight.

What is the deal with salad!?!

Salad is one of those things that I just don't get. When I say salad I mean weird salads like potato salad or egg salad. Who ever thought hmmm these potatoes are delicious, you know what would make them better? Covering them with mayonnaise and other gross stuff and serving them cold. I Enjoy many of the different salad ingredients. I love potatoes I will probably post more about this in the future but potato salad is not appealing to me, I think its a waste of good potatoes. I like pasta this doesn't mean I want to throw it in a bowl with a lot of other weird stuff mix it up and eat it cold, that's just gross. I have always thought that there is way too much of it in church picnics. Some people are like "There is way too much hypocrisy in the church!!!!!!" and I'm like "There's way too much salad in the church!!!!!" now I'm not saying that one of these issues is more important I just think we should stop wrecking our food with mayonnaise and the such. I've had marshmallow salads and egg salads and all sorts of gross salads just to be polite and I'm through with that sort of stuff. People say why not egg salad? Its just like a deviled egg, to which I say true, it's not bad on sandwiches but I'm still not a fan. I preffer my eggs sunny side up so I can dip my toast in them, and this has worked for me for almost 20 years and I don't plan on changing it.
Until next time,
Andrew

The Joys of Plaid

Plaid is a wonderful thing, I personally wear it all the time. Plaid shirts have become my favorite type of shirt for a number of reasons. First, they go with any pants, jeans, khaki's, you name it plaid matches it. I personally really like wearing plaid with my striped shorts, though my girlfriend does not seem to like this as much. I have a terrible time picking out clothes in the morning and though I always look amazing other people sometimes don't but plaid usually works well with my other clothes. Another reason I like plaid is that no matter what I am doing I am rarely over/under dressed. I could wear a plaid button up shirt when playing sports with my friends or while at church. I find this very helpful as I do not need to think about where I am going in the morning as I am not by any stretch of the imagination, a morning person. Plaid offers me the perfect combination of style and comfort. It is classy yet not constricting. I plan on wearing a plaid tux at my wedding it looks so good on me. I am realizing that the great part about having a blog is that I can talk about pretty much anything and no one takes it too seriously.
Until next time, stay classy internet! or become classy! or... you know what forget I even said anything.

Top 5 Actions

Hello everyone and congratulations on surviving another Monday, as a celebration of Monday being finished I am going to count down my top five action movies. Watch one of these and have a great rest of the day!
1.       The Italian Job- This movie is a classic, with Jason Statham, Mark Wahlberg and a great array of characters this movie awesome, mini cooper is the car of choice for the chases and it makes for an exciting ride!

2.       The Town- I think this is the most underrated movie on the list. This is a dark crime thriller that is based out of a bad neighborhood in Boston, what makes this movie exceptional is the depth of the characters and the way the movie draws you into their lives. A great movie but don’t go into it thinking that it will be a light movie. Also, the nun masks are exceptional.

3.       Jack Reacher- This was a surprise for me, I went to see this one in theatres over my Christmas break and it impressed me, I am not a Tom Cruise fan but he played the role very well and the plot well thought out,  based on the book One Shot by Lee Child they did a very good job bringing this to the big screen.

4.       Die Hard- What can I say? Bruce Willis killing terrorists in an office building in order to save his wife, yes please! A Christmas movie for guys, this movie is sure to thrill, from watching Willis walk across broken glass in bare feet to the fight scenes this movie is a festive favorite. Yipi kay yay.

5.       First Blood- You can’t go wrong with Sylvester Stallone. This is the first installment of the Rambo franchise and it is the best one, John Rambo is a Vietnam veteran who has difficulties readjusting to civilian life after being a Green Beret for so long. An emotional ending that is well worth watching, a classic.

Be sure to comment, I’d love to hear from you!
Enjoy

Top 5 Comedies

One of my favorite things to do is watch movies, I love comedies, the kind that moms and girlfriends everywhere call stupid and roll their eyes at. Here are my top 5 comedies of all time.

1.       Anchorman: This movie has an allstar lineup including Will Ferrell  and Steve Carell  and it doesn’t disappoint. This movie is probably the most quotable movie of all time. A great movie to watch with your buddies and when you need a laugh.

Quote: “They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time, it works every time.”

2.      The Other Guys: Another good bros movie, this movie has a great cast including the Rock, Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. A movie about two stupid cops, this movie is great because it mixes action and comedy without taking itself too seriously. A must watch.

Quote: “Got a couple of tips... help you guys stay out of jail. One: try your hardest to not be Black or Hispanic.”

3.       The Pink Panther: Another cop comedy, Steve Martin stars as Jacque Clouseau, a bumbling police officer hired to be a decoy detective when a legendary diamond is stolen. Through a bunch of crazy situations Steve Martin makes you laugh with his facial expressions and French accent. Funny yet appropriate for everyone.

Quote: “I…I don’t even own a mace”
4.       Monty Python and the Holy Grail: A hilarious spoof about King Arthur and the nights of the round table trying to find the Holy Grail. With all of their comical adventures from a killer rabbit to the knights who say Ni this movie is great.

Quote: “Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of Elderberries!”

5.        Happy Gilmore: Adam Sandler plays a hockey player who takes up  golf in order to save his grandmothers home. This is a  hilarious comedy, a highly original, sincerely funny movie. A must for anyone who has ever gotten frustrated at golf.
Quote: “What are you doing!?!” “Just looking for the other half of my bottle, oh here it is”
I would consider these to be the five best comedies I have ever seen. They make me laugh and are a great way to end a day, I hope you all like them as much as me!

A Little About Me

Hi my name is Andrew, this is my first attempt at blogging, I am a nineteen and in my first year of Electrical Engineering at Conestoga College. I get called a lot of things but boring is not one of them, I enjoy making life exciting and having a good time. My most recent adventure involved me becoming a pet owner, it was going well until Saturday morning when my hamster of one week, Oreo died, and apparently he stressed out too much and starved himself to death. So I went and got a new hamster yesterday as Oreo was still under warranty, my new hamsters name is Panda, Senior Panda if we are being formal. Senior Panda is a very cute hamster and I am very happy to have him. Anyways I hope you enjoy my blog,  I’m excited to keep you posted about my life.
Stay classy internet.
